Are You Giving Up Your Right ?

You have a right to be happy. Exercise that right !! If you are not pursuing your happiness what are you pursuing? You are probably pursuing money with the belief that obtaining money will give you the power to purchase things that will make you happy. You may be also pursuing something other than happiness through a job or career that you may or may not be satisifed with. In addition you are probably attempting to please people, groups or organizations within your life with the subconscience belief that their satisfaction, approval or praise will contribute to boosting your emotional state. When you really sit back at think about it you are not working much on what you truly want in life. You are toiling day in and day out for others, with the hope that their financial payments, and or feedback will provide you with something that will make you feel good. We use excuses like "I have to go to work ! " , "I have no choice.", or "This is all I know." to limit our choices and opprotunities. This results in us spending so much time working on what others want that we FAIL to follow, or go after our PASSION and TRUE PURPOSE. We were born to do some special and deep down you KNOW what that thing is for you. Going after that one thing will make you feel whole. It will fill you will purpose. It will bring you happiness. You will acheive success by going after it. Pursuing anything else, denying yourself the opprotunity, procrastinating, using excuses and giving in to fear will be a painful fight against what you were born to be. A continiuous effort of spending days, weeks, months, and years fighting against your purpose will build regret, animosity, anger and other negative emotions within you, and towards individuals and things outside of you. Life will be full or challenges and the unknown no matter what path you follow. However it is much more fullfilling facing the opstacles in life while you are doing something you are passionate about and truly know you were put on earth to do. Emanicipate yourself !! Follow your passion! Embrace your purpose! Welcome the happiness in your life that you have been running from in pursuit of what you THOUGHT would make you happy. You have a right to be Happy! Exercise that Right !! Luke Wright

  1. I took a grad class on leadership a few years back that tore apart the oppressive nature of the classroom...I extend that yo the oppression we put ourselves through continually. I choose, most days, to not limit myself and to be authentic with my everything...thus hopefully guiding my dreams and not excuses. Thank you Luke!

    1. Great point Fran ! When we stop placing limits on what we do we accomplish things that we had previously held ourselves back from. We end up living a more exciting and enjoyable life.

  2. Everyone has the right to happiness. Most don't find it because they allow too many excuses to cloud the way. People say "you should follow your heart." Sometimes that leads to other distractions.Only when you place your trust in yourself and your abilities will you see how happiness can be found. We must sometimes take a leap of faith and trust in our own self worth, only then will one truly know it trying is worth the risk. Most fail to even try once, and settle. Don't settle. take the plunge!!

    1. Taking a plunge is right George ! We fret over how frightening, overwhelming, difficult and unfamiliar the experience will be. Most times people end up talking themselves out of pursuing their dreams because of their fears. Once they try and get beyond the initial shock most people realize that their fears had seriously misrepresented the experience.

  3. Luke, your message is right on point! Happiness is achieving one’s purpose filled life. Too many times we get caught up in extending ourselves, our talents, our time to other people and things which deter us from our goals and destroy our dreams. We must be careful in giving up such right to individuals by handing them a ‘remote control’ to our lives so that they are capable of manipulating and crippling us from truly living a meaningful “happy” life. When we give up such right we become doubtful, confused and forgetful of what we were meant to become. Life is a “roller coaster” and we can get twisted in many directions, but one should continue to recover and maintain a ‘balance’ - - stay on the driver’s seat of your journey so you can live a fruitful, happy life no matter your surroundings.

    1. Barbara you inspire me as well !! I think we can both testify that following our passion provides one with a sense of fulfillment that cannot be replaced by a promotion or increased salary from a job that is unrelated to one's purpose.

  5. Good thing I came back to your blog Luke because my earlier comments were not posted. Thank you for sharing your insights. Your message is an inspiring one; I hope it will reach those you really need to receive it.

In this culture, we are socialized to believe that material things are important. Hence, many of our people get caught up in the acquisition of things. I, on the other hand, have come to understand that radiant health, loving relationships and meaningful work essential ingredients to success. My favorite definition of success comes from Paul Meyer, a management consultant, who teaches that success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal. Peace, Atim

    1. Atim your mention of HEALTH is so KEY !! Many people never realize that the emotional and physical pain that they experience is directly connected to the unfulfilling life they choose to live by purposly not following a path that is directly related to the passion and desire in their hearts.
